"It's a String Thing" #119 Tiles

This past week, we tangled away with refreshing bubbly on our minds.   With a string that resembled bottles and related tangles, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Coca-Cola's iconic green bottle.

The results were a mix of traditional tiles along with Zentangle®Inspired Art pieces - a very grand celebration.

Let's take a look ~

The first tile arrived from Jennifer Sparrow (North Carolina) ~
Not a big fan of soda, I decided to go with champagne! That's what I immediately saw in the string this week--champagne flutes. I love Bublz, which was new to me. Your 100 tangle felt like an elegant string of pearls. I got lost in Ripples, and couldn't see where things were going in that small, wonky grid. Must have been the champagne!
Thanks for teaching and challenging us. Have a great week!
 Tangled Tidbits -
*champagne - wonderful idea!
100 and Bublz shaded similarly
*large grid for sparkled Ripples

From Anita A Westin (Dalarna, Sweden) ~
An awesome challenge! String no 11 is one of those I have used before and I like it a lot. Ripples was the pattern I had not met before. This tile came out a little bit heavy, but I like it this way. And Dragonair is my own option, it came to me immediately to join the other wonderful patterns!

Tangled Tidbits -
*dark sparkled spaces repeat in 100 and Ripples
*stipple and shading add depth

From CZT Tonya Barlow ~
I love the string and the bubbles. Well, For that matter, I love Coke too. Pretty sure they were not the first to appreciate this shape but a great call none the less.
 Tangled Tidbits -
*three Ripple variations
*Bublz shines with shading, varied line weight

A very warm welcome to Ranjitha YP (Bangalore,India) ~
Here is my first submission for IAST.
Thank you
Tangled Tidbits -
*pleasing balance of light and dark spaces and tangles
*crowning touch added with "coca cola"

From Sarah Antoinette (Michigan) and here on her blog ~
First I must say- I love these tangles you picked! I was really excited to work with them. The string was really different too, and could've lent itself to so many combinations! I used a 01 Sakura Micron pen in black, with pencil on a 3.5"x3.5" tile. Yes. I tried my hardest to keep up with all of you talented Zentangle artists. I really feel good that this is something I was able to do.

Tangled Tidbits -
*Ripples background
*beautifully shaded 100

A very warm welcome to Chimica (California) ~
This is my very very very first time ever making a zentangle. I know it's ugly and weird and no where as good as the other artist you share but I tried really hard to make it nice ( it didn't work ) . I'm a writer not an artist but I'm trying to learn something new and fun.

Tangled Tidbits -
*kudos for jumping in and joining the party!
*stacked and single lines of 100

From Kate (United Kingdom) ~
I live near Durham in the North East of England and last week Durham
hosted its 'Lumiere' festival of light when the city was filled with
fabulous light installations by many talented international artists.
Durham has a beautiful Norman cathedral and this year the huge vaulted
ceiling was filled with the most amazing coloured patterns, constantly
morphing into new designs and colours - a zentangle of light!! I've
enclosed some photographs along with my contribution to this week's
challenge, I hope you like them.

Tangled Tidbits -
*four variations of 100
*free floating Ripples
Thank you for sending the beautiful photos of a "zentangle of light", it must have been spectacular to behold.

From Ilse Lukken (The Netherlands) and here on her blog ~
Here's my entry for this week's challenge. Nice to see the pattern 100 in it, it's one of my favourites!

Tangled Tidbits -
*three wonderful takes on 100
*superbly shaded Bublz

From Joanne Faherty (United Kingdom) ~
Heres the coca-cola edition of its a string thing celebrating 100 years of the brown fizzy stuff ( which I have to add I only like when pregnant!?)
So it didn't turn out quite as planned due to me putting one of the ripples in the wrong way no mistakes right I just made them all the same! No one would ever know. I tried to make the same 'green' as those glass bottles its quite a hard green to get right....and then I thought I know I'll add red coke is associated with the bright red. Well now ripple looks like an Italian flag! Umm so not how I pictured things going in my head but oh well its OK till happy Tuesday, tangle on!

Tangled Tidbits -
*alternating dense and lightly filled string sections
*pretty colors and shading

From Lori Byerly (Washington), the creator of Bublz (applause!) and here on her blog ~
You create the most interesting challenges! :) Thanks for using bublz. It was great fun working it together with 100 and ripples.
 Tangled Tidbits -
*simply elegant combination of the three tangles
*Ripple and 100 filled Bublz

From Sara (Western Australia) ~
This one was fun.  Thanks, Adele!
Tangled Tidbits -
*gorgeous variation of Ripples - heart shapes and detail lines
*sparkled, striped double lines of 100

From Elspeth (Pinedale, Wyoming) ~
I know this challenges was inspired by Coca-Cola, but it looked like
wine bottles to me, hence the color purple! Thanks for the challenge!

First champagne, then wine...I like where this is going :)

Tangled Tidbits -
*100 string line and border
*three variations of Ripples

From Beth Gaughan (North Carolina) ~
Here is my tile celebrating 100 years of Coca-Cola. I thought a few dew drops would add to the theme.
Tangled Tidbits -
*detailed Ripples
*lines repeat in Ripples and 100
*wonderful dew drops

From Tina Kirchhübel (Germany) ~
I like this challenge so much. The patterns are so great and relating to the topic "100 years Coca Cola" I had immediately a picture in mind. And because the colours of Coca Cola are red and white I also took a touch of red in my tile and I am very satisfied with the result.
Hope you like it, too.  (Yes, I do!)
Greatings from Germany

Tangled Tidbits -
*100 string lines aura-ed on one side, shaded on the other
*lovely Bublz and a touch of red for Ripples

From Karen, The Creative Miss L and here on her blog ~
Here’s what I’ve created this week. The bottles look more like wine bottles to me than Coke bottles. Maybe that’s because I don’t drink Coke but do drink wine? I’m struggling to use the Inktense pencils. I’m not getting a smooth finish, even when I blend with the Inktense blender pencil. Mmmm. Need to work on this.
 Tangled Tidbits -
*tangles in every other string section
*balance of light and dark spaces works well with the added touch of green

From Bhamathi (Bangalore, India) and here on her blog ~
Thanks for another fun challenge.
Your pattern 100 was easy to draw. That is a stepout that is so simple to remember and so many variations.
I had a tough time deciding whether I wanted to put Bublz inside the bottle shape or Ripples to look like the glass. Then I decided that since you selected Ripples for the bottle texture, Ripples it would be..
Sad that I dint have much space left for the Bublz.
 Tangled Tidbits -
*curved grid for Ripples adds dimension
*100 string lines with wonderful variations

From Marla Mendenhall (California) ~
Zentangle is truly the "pause that refreshes", so why shouldn't it go better with Coke?
This week, however, I was crippled by a killer head cold. Niagara Falls nasal passages, cacophonous cough, and a mind filled with Marshmallow Fluff. Can't breathe without taking otc meds, and can't rest because they make my legs jumpy. I am quite a joy to be around when I get sick (which fortunately for the whole world is very seldom).
Today I felt a bit better and thought I might tackle this week's challenge (delirium had me anxiously tangling in my sleep, and I didn't even know what the patterns were). While Ripples initially had me stymied, with a bit of practice I found my stroke, and I love the shapes created by alternating the direction of each cube. Doesn't quite look like Helen's example, but then I'm okay with that. Bublz, too fun, and I chose 100 to represent the 'liquid' in the bottles, since it's "the real thing"too.

This week's endeavor took Herculean effort, but I'm pleased with the outcome. And now me and my teddy Chester are hitting the sheets for the next two days...

 Tangled Tidbits -
*alternating the direction of each cube in Ripples - that is genius!
*simple strokes of 100 with shading - a fabulous variation
Get better soon!  Thank you for sharing your sense of humor despite being under the weather.

A very warm welcome to Dr. Shazia who writes from India ~
Here is my first colored tile for coca cola...
Thank you
 Tangled Tidbits -
*wonderful swirls of 100 wrap around the string sections
*Bublz concentrates as the space narrows
*Bublz and Ripples mix in the middle

From Esther (Switzerland) and on her blog ~
I like the bottle shape idea! All three patterns where new to me and the pattern Ripples was very difficult for me to draw.
 Tangled Tidbits -
*eight pretty variations of 100
*shading adds depth

From Karin (Germany) ~
this is my entry to no. 119!
I really like bublz! Ripples was new to me und I think I have to pratice more to get a better result.
Enjoy a glass of coke and have a relaxing Weekend!
Greetings from Germany!
Tangled Tidbits -
*shaded string lines and border
*dark and light rows of Ripples
*checkered 100

A very warm welcome to Anja from Germany and here on her blog ~
This is my first participation in the challenge. I really enjoyed it! I thank you so much for your wonderful Challenge!
Very best wishes to all,
Anja from Germany
 Tangled Tidbits -
*rows of delightfully detailed 100 and Ripples
*bubbly Bublz fills the string sections

From Ingrid with lots of love from the Netherlands ~
Tangled Tidbits -
*dense concentration of Bublz gives emphasis on the oval shapes it creates
*alternating detail lines in Ripples
*fabulous 100

From Linda Goncalves (Pennsylvania) ~
This week I had trouble getting these three into a form I liked. I
tried it several ways. In the end, this is what I settled on. I am
still very curious to see what the others have done with it. I am sure
I will be amazed, as usual.
 Tangled Tidbits -
*aura-ed Bublz with black background
*rows of blended Ripples and 100
...and a very nice frame :)

From Jane Glotzer (Colorado) ~
Hope this finds you well...we have finally had a small taste of winter, with a couple of inches of snow falling last night. We had had a forecast of a foot! earlier this week that never materialized...there wasn't a speck where I was, but there was quite a bit in other places...that's crazy Colorado--:)
Fun anniversary you are celebrating with this week's challenge...the iconic Coke bottle. And, for no particular reason, or maybe because of the bubbles, I used a round coaster to trace my initial shape...
I started with the 100 in the center, but just laid it out to start and didn't do any filling in at first--wasn't sure exactly how I wanted to approach that (I think I missed the challenge where you introduced that tangle when I was working on my bench so I haven't had a chance to play around with it.) Put the Bublz on the outsides (that darn symmetry pulling at me) and then the Ripples easily fell into place in the remaining spaces...I decided to use CZT Katy Abbott's Kuke, a favorite of mine, to fill in the 100 zeroes, with some simple line work on the ones...
Whoa, that made it so very very busy!! And I was not liking it at all...
I usually just go with however the string is presented as my top and bottom, but I started rotating this circle around and with just a quarter turn of the string to the left, all of a sudden, it seemed so much calmer and balanced! A touch of shading...no resemblance to Coke bottles at all, but still cool...:)
 Tangled Tidbits -
*wonderful waves in Ripples - the curved grid draws the black centers to a point
*Kuke 100 - a new favorite!

From Becky Welty (North Carolina) ~
Tangled Tidbits -
*mirrored 100 in alternating string sections
*a few free floating circles surround clusters of Bublz

From CZT midori (Florida) ~
i have always been drawn to a 'circle.' drawing, looking at circles connects me to my inner child. circle is universal, all inclusive, a union of heaven and earth. bubbles, glass marbles...a circle is fun and calming. every week, i enjoy discovering new tangles and finding the time to render them.
thank you!
 Tangled Tidbits -
*double lined grid for Ripples and 100
*beautiful Bublz - shading, size variation, layers...

From Joy (Pennsylvania) ~
'Le Bataclan'
This news has left our hearts heavy -- and my vision a rather dark and fragmented one this week. Here's hope for better days and healing to friends all over the world.
Tangled Tidbits -
*Bublz bubble passed the string lines
*rows of 100
all accented with a touch of green

From Felicity Strohfeldt (South Africa) and here on her blog ~
Tile 119. Great challenge and idea to honour the icon drink Coca Cola. I’m sure other tanglers will also morf the bottle string into stylized coke bottle shapes.
What could be more appropriate? Coke bottles with bubbly patterns like 100 and Bulbz and a background of Ripple. Your 100 suggested the ripples on a
Coca Cola bottle and Bulbz Lori Byerly of course makes excellent frothy Coke bubbles. Ripples is a versatile pattern and works well as a background grid pattern
My lettering is, well, a bit squiffy but it’s a suggestion isn’t it? Anyway I enjoyed the whole exercise. Thank you.
 Tangled Tidbits -
*totally refreshing tile - getting thirsty?!
*at least eight variations of 100 tucked in and around Ripples and Bublz
*logo lettering and red bands - fabulous!

From Elisa (Paris, France) ~
Please find attached my tile for Coca-Cola's anniversary. The three patterns were new to me, so I kept it pretty simple, using this tile as a way to practice them!
I like the Bublz pattern very much: it does bring back happy childhood memories ... I also enjoyed your 100 tangle: I plan to explore all the possible variations in another tile !
Tangled Tidbits -
*100 with pearl-like shading and stripes
*Ripples with Tipple and details lines

From smgg (Taiwan) ~
 Tangled Tidbits -
*alternating rows of Ripples
*four fun 100's

From Wanda Amborse (Virginia) ~
...With each tile I'm learning. Ancora Imparo .
I always look forward to seeing everyone's interpretation of the different strings.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Tangled Tidbits -
*festive tanglations for the season
*100 and Bublz intermingle

And now, for a special treat this week, there are two tiles for honors.
The first was sent in by
 Sharyn Penna (Massachusetts) !

Sharyn wrote:
What a great prompt theme! Whenever I think of Coca Cola, I think of the Coke commercial ... people standing side by side holding hands and singing.
I added my favorite verse from the song to frame my tile. Given all that is happening around the world, it's just a small way to send light and love to all corners of the world. Thanks for a prompt that inspired goodwill to the world! Have a Coke and a smile! Cheers!

(When I wrote the prompt last week that song was playing in my head.  She summed it up beautifully.)
Tangled Tidbits -
*spectacular 100's
*lighter Bublz pops against the darker tangles

The second tile for honors this week was sent in by
Michele Wynne of California ~

Michelle wrote:
Thanks for another fun challenge. This was one of those challenges that seemed to have a mind of it's own. I had no idea what I was going to do when I put pen to paper but just let it flow. The color was a last minute addition. It did get a little murky in places but that's how I roll;-)
Tangled Tidbits -
*twists of 100
*large sparkled Ripples with pretty detail
*depth achieved with shading, color, as well as size of the tangles
*beautiful color combination

Congratulations, Michelle and Sharyn! I have a little something coming in the mail to you both.

Special thanks to the creative minds behind the string and patterns used this week along with my 100:
